Cazz brings sexy back with her debut single “Tipsy”

SA has a fresh new face in music and she’s not your average girl-next-door.

Johannesburg-born Cazz releases her debut single “Tipsy” and brings a sexy new edge to a music scene in desperate need of some female presence.

“Tipsy” received its First Exclusive Play on Mix Fm with the rest of radio receiving the single this week. Produced and record by Howie Combrink, who’s gaining popularity fast with his own solo career, the single launches Cazz with a sound she’s been aching for years to record and finally found the right producer to make it a reality.

“Working with Howie is amazing, he just understands exactly what I want and which direction I want to go in. I’m very happy I found the right person to make what happens in my head a reality! I can’t wait to release ‘Tipsy’! It’s something I’ve dreamt of my whole life and I’m very proud of the outcome and the fact that it’s completely original.” comments an excited Cazz.

Cazz is not looking to be compared to anyone. Her fun Jazzy-pop single puts her in a league of her own.

21 year old Cazz, born Caroline Tregurtha, has always had her sights set on the entertainment industry. “I don’t think it was really an option for me. Every time I tried to steer myself to what’s classified as a ‘normal job’, the music would just pull me right back, so I had to follow it. I strongly believe that there is no bigger privilege than being able to do what you love.”

For Cazz, being an artist came with incredible hard work and years of perfecting her art. This was not an overnight decision. At 15, Cazz enrolled in a music academy called The Institute of Music Excellence (T.I.M.E) in Centurion and for the next 3 years she had to juggle High School and the very demanding, yet exciting, music academy. Never once did she dream of quitting for the easier school days.

“The philosophy at T.I.M.E was to push you to your limits as an artist and prepare you for the industry. It forced you to become confident and be able to perform on the spot. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Sheldon Rocha Leal who headed up the academy. He made me realize that I had the determination and talent to be successful,” explains Cazz.

While at the academy, each year also saw her perform at The National School of the Arts (NSA) in their annual Festival of Fame. Her highlight during this period was when she performed at The Nelson Mandela 21 Years of Freedom Celebration in front of a variety of celebrity guests like Chomee, Bryan Habana, Yvonne Chaka Chaka and PJ Powers.

2010 was also a big year for Cazz with the soccer world cup coming to South Africa. She entered a talent search along with ± 8000 other people all hoping to perform at one of the Fan Fests. She was one of the 14 selected and performed twice at the Centurion stadium. The show also appeared live on SABC. “It was the first time I had performed in a stadium and the experience was simply amazing!”

In Cazz’s final school year she found herself writing pop music that was a mixture of funk, soul and jazz which ranged from playful to heartbreaking.

“Each song I write is directly related to my life or a moment when I felt something needed to be expressed that has happened to me. The lyrics I write are real to me. It’s everyday life that we can all relate to.”

Fast forward another 3 years with loads more shows, surprise appearances in some well-known music videos, corporate performances and finally meeting the right producer, Cazz launches her solo career.

The release of “Tipsy” will well precede the release of her debut album, due in mid-2015.
